Test the color by applying along your jawline. The correct color will be invisible. You’ll see the foundation only if the color is too light, too dark, or the wrong shade.

Test your base first before buying.  Try these simple tests:

  1. Feel: If the product feels silky, you're least likely to feel it on your skin. If it's heavy or chalky, you'll notice it quicker. Rub it between your fingers and see how the texture is.
  2. Coverage: Test on the inside of your wrist. If it covers all the veins and discolorations on your wrist, you have a great covering foundation. If it hardly covers anything, you'll know you have to keep looking.
  3. Color: Test the color on a piece of white paper. Any under tones you might see (like pink, yellow, gray, green, blue) will appear on your skin a few hours after you've worn it and appear muddy or off.  This can make sure you're getting the right tone.
    • If you think you've found it, then apply a test swab to the side of your jaw and blend. If it blends in quick, that's the one. If it takes to long to disappear, your color is too light or too dark.
